CREATIVE TOP TEN'S
Creative Top Tens
What's It All About
West London is one of the main production locations for much of the UK's media
and creative industries. Home to the BBC and numerous large-scale media and
creative industry production houses, the west London area is also home to literally
thousands of small scale and micro-companies; freelancers and skilled creatives.
And, of course, these industries need skilled people. Notoriously difficult
to get into, there are nonetheless many residents of west London who want to
make a career for themselves in the creative industries. Ironically, the creative
industries themselves do not always find it easy to recruit people with the
right spread of skills they need.
As a result, there are a number of specialist training agencies and local initiatives
aimed at matching aspirant creatives with the right skills needed by the industry.
More details on some of these initiatives and agencies are located here
Wanting to reflect the local importance of the media and creative industries,
Westlondongrid has asked some local people involved in these industries in different
ways to help us produce some fun resources.
"Creative Top Tens" is the first of these.
The format is simple: we have asked a number of local creatives and or people
involved in the provision of media and related training to prepare their personal
"top ten" on a particular media or creative industry topic. The result
is a highly individual "web quest", linking the top ten to other locations
on the Net. We think that the top tens should prove interesting to those of
you out there who share an interest in the topic, whether as a local aspirant
wanting a career in the field, or merely and armchair observer.
We hope you enjoy what your fellow west Londoners come up with. And, please,
if you have something to contribute, please contact us
at westlondongrid with a few lines about yourself and what kind of top ten
you might like to prepare. We will then get back to you as soon as possible
with full details.
Please note that the "Top Ten" series expresses the personal view
of the individual authors and does not reflect the position of Westlondongrid
or any of the partner agencies managing the project. Neither the author nor
