Olympic Village
The BBC's own Media Village is playing host to a number of activities that
highlight this year’s Athens Olympics. And, indeed, they have not missed
the opportunity to remind us of our local Olympic history. The White City Stadium
was in fact the location of the 1908 Olympics.
Even back then, London has never had an easy ride in securing international
sporting events. Want to know why the 1908 Olympics took place in White City?
Why not have a peek at this section on the Olympic's history on the Canadian
Broadcasting Corporation's website. This reason and other interesting background
facts are also covered in this section of The
Times' site.
On the other hand, the Olympic Creed was written after a speech given by Bishop
Ethelbert at the 1908 Olympics at White City. Curious? For more information
and other Olympic trivia, click

Want to know what the stadium looked like? Well there are some images in this
section of this excellent website on the development of White City by the
Year
5 class of the Pope John School.
If all of this inspires you to thinking that it was time that London hosted
the Olympics again, then you might want to register your support for London's
bid for the 2012 games at the official
site for the bid.
